Worship Musician’s Theory Course

Hello fellow musician,

1 Chronicles 25:7 states that the musicians in the temple were “trained and skilled in music for the Lord”. In accordance with that verse we have continually offered classes to our church and sister churches in the community that would increase our musical knowledge and skills. Beginning Monday, September 19th at 6:30-7:30 we will be offering The Worship Musician’s Theory Course. Part 1 will be an 8-week course. We will take a break for the holidays and resume part 2 in January.

This course is designed to teach you to read music, understand theory and improve your musical gift. We will use songs from CCLI’s top 25 praise and worship choruses and favorite hymns as our musical texts. All basic concepts of theory will be taught in a very concise, easy and practical manner that you will understand.

Every vocalist and musician can benefit from this course and it is designed for every level of musical skill. We begin with the basics of knowing the names of musical notes and finish with understanding the structure of chords, scales, progressions and intervals. Upon completion you should be able to read music, play every chord used in worship (and their inversions), read guitar chord chart symbols, transpose music to any key and write chords to any melody.

Do you feel intimidated? Relax, it will be fun…it will be easy (we are going to take it very slow)…it will be interesting… you will succeed and will be thrilled at what you learn. We have intentionally not created a syllabus so we can we go at whatever pace is needed for the class participants.

The cost of the course will be $40.00. This covers the cost of your text-workbook and handouts.
Our primary curriculum will be The Worship Musician’s Theory Book by Dr. Steve Bowersox. You will need to bring a pencil and a small keyboard if you have one (optional).
